Welcome to PatrologiX. By accessing or using our platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using PatrologiX, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2. Description of Service

PatrologiX is a theological research platform providing access to patristic literature, works of Thomas Aquinas, Sacred Scripture, and related scholarly resources. The platform includes:

A searchable corpus of over 18,000 theological texts
AI-powered research assistance and semantic search
Cross-references, theological loci mapping, and semantic tags
Community features including user blog posts

3. Intellectual Property

This section is important — please read it carefully.

Public Domain Texts

The underlying primary texts on PatrologiX — including works of the Church Fathers, Thomas Aquinas, and Scripture — are in the public domain. PatrologiX makes no copyright claim over these texts themselves. You are free to read, quote, and use these texts as the public domain allows.

Tag Set, Cross-References, and Taxonomy

The AI-generated semantic tag set, the cross-reference index, and the theological loci taxonomy are made freely available — we make no copyright claim over them and place no restriction on how you use them.

If you would like a copy of this data, create an account and reach out so we can arrange to get it to you. In return, we ask (but do not require) a voluntary donation to a friend's project building a school in his home village in Tanzania — it is not yet a registered charity, so there is no legal entity behind it; a link with more information will be posted here once one is available.

Proprietary Assets

Platform code — all software, algorithms, and technical implementations
UI/UX design — visual design, layouts, and user interface elements
Compiled database structure — the organization and structure of our database

These proprietary assets may not be scraped, exported, reverse-engineered, or reproduced for commercial purposes without explicit written permission.

User Content

You retain copyright and ownership of content you create on PatrologiX (such as blog posts). By posting content, you grant PatrologiX a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and promote your content on the platform. You may delete your content at any time, which terminates this license (except for cached or archived copies that may persist temporarily).

4. AI Features Disclaimer

PatrologiX includes AI-powered features to assist your theological research. Please understand:

AI output is for research assistance only — it is not a substitute for reading primary sources
Always verify against primary texts — AI can make mistakes, misinterpret context, or produce inaccurate summaries
AI does not provide theological or pastoral guidance — for matters of faith and practice, consult qualified clergy or theologians
No warranty of accuracy — we do not guarantee the correctness of AI-generated content

5. Subscriptions and Billing

Early Access Pricing

Current subscription pricing reflects early access rates. Prices may change in the future, but existing subscribers will be notified in advance of any changes affecting their subscription.

Billing

Subscriptions are billed through Stripe on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, depending on your plan). By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method automatically.

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Upon cancellation:

Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period
You will not be charged for subsequent periods
No refunds are provided for partial billing periods

6. Early Access Notice

PatrologiX is currently in active early-access development.

Features may change, be added, or be removed without notice
You may encounter bugs or incomplete functionality
Data formats or APIs may change as we develop the platform
We appreciate your patience and feedback during this phase

By using PatrologiX during early access, you acknowledge and accept these conditions. Your feedback helps us build a better platform.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Scrape or bulk download content, data, or proprietary assets from the platform
Use automated tools to access the platform in ways that burden our infrastructure or circumvent rate limits
Attempt to accessother users' accounts or private data
Post content that is illegal, defamatory, harassing, hateful, or discriminatory
Spam the community features or AI systems
Circumvent security measures or access restrictions
Resell or redistribute paid features without authorization

8. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms of Service. In cases of serious or repeated violations, termination may occur without prior notice.

You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, PatrologiX and Jan Banholzer shall not be liable for:

Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform
Loss of data due to technical issues, though we take reasonable precautions to prevent this
Errors in AI-generated content or any decisions made based on such content
Service interruptions due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control

Our total liability for any claim related to the service shall not exceed the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of PatrologiX shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Germany.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a prominent notice on the platform. Continued use of PatrologiX after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
